CityMetric Advent 6: Run, Santa, run!

By City Monitor Staff

What could possibly be more fun than running? How about running in unnecessarily heavy fur-lined outfits? How about running dressed as Santa?

Santa suits are probably not the ideal outfits for jogging, however, so one of these Santas has come up with a solution.

The event at which these pictures were taken took place in Liverpool on 1 December last year. It goes by the name of the “Santa Dash”, which is pleasingly literal, but loses points for not finding a way of getting the word “Dasher” in there somewhere.

But if charity runs featuring everyone’s favourite morbidly obese old man areyour bag, then your luck is in, because such events happen rather a lot. This website lists dozens of similar events: Santa Runs, Santa Cycles, Jingle Jogs, and, perhaps most excitingly, the “Bradford Reindeer Stampede”, which is raising money for Epilepsy Action. They’re mostly in the UK, but a few are in the US or Ireland.

One slight oddity about the Liverpool one: supports of the city’s Everton football club refuse to wear red and white, the colours of their hated rivals Liverpool FC. Hence, blue Santas:

If you do fancy getting involved in one of these things (because clearly some people do), then there’s still time. The season started in November, but continues right up until Christmas.
