Dubai’s developers must be exhausted. It can’t be easy coming up with ever-more specific ways in which the emirate can go bigger and better than the rest of the world. In the past year alone, it’s announced  the world’s largest theme park, the world’s largest air port, and the world’s largest shopping centre.

Now, as if playing host to the world’s tallest skyscraper weren’t enough, it’s planning to build the tallest “twin towers”, too.

The proposed towers are the work of Emaar Properties, the developer which is also responsible for the Dubailand theme park and that giant airport, and will be part of a 6-tower, mainly residential development known as Creek Harbour. The developers haven’t deigned to announce the planned height of the towers (or how much they’ll cost to build, come to that), but have simply asserted confidently that they will be the “world’s tallest”. Because that’s all that matters, after all.

“Twin towers” are pairs of towers built to a nearly identical height or design. The current record-holders (in terms of architectural height, which includes spires or antennas) are, as far as we can tell, the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, which stand at 452m:

We secretly hope the developers at Emaar Properties haven’t done their research and will be forced to write “second tallest” on the next Creek Harbour press release. It would do them a world of good.
