New Year’s resolution: this year, we’re going to be more international.

To that end, on this week’s podcast, we’re talking about Africa. Nimko Ali is a Somali-born feminist activist and campaigner against female genital mutilation (FGM).

She tells me about Somaliland, its history and why it’s definitely not part of Somalia; what life is like in the country’s capital Hargeisa; and her thoughts on Africa’s cultural prospects. Between us, we also come up with some novel ideas for some GPS-enabled goats.

You can read more about the history of Somaliland, and its campaign to build a national library, here.

The episode itself is below. You can subscribe to the podcast on AcastiTunes, or RSS. Enjoy.
